You can help us to keep Thurrock safe, clean & green by reporting any of the following problems:

Abandoned Vehicles - report online

Thurrock Council will deal with any vehicles reported as abandoned on local roads or property. The vehicle will be removed if it is causing a public nuisance, is untaxed or if has not been removed by the owner a specified length of time after a notice of removal has been placed on the vehicle.

Animal Fouling - report online

Under the Dogs (Fouling of Land) Act 1996, any person who permits a dog that is in their charge to foul any area to which the public has access is committing an offence. Special bins are provided in parks which may be used by dog owners. Problems with these bins should be reported to the council.

Blocked / Flooded Drains & Gullies - report online

The council has a regular programme of inspection and cleansing for drains and gullies in Thurrock. However, in extreme weather conditions these may become blocked or flooded. Please notify us of uncleaned or blocked drains or gullies along public roads. Gutters and drains on private properties remain the responsibility of the property owner.

Commercial Waste Spillage - report online

Trade waste must be packed in suitable containers so that it cannot fall out, blow away or escape from the receptacle such that it could cause pollution or harm to anyone. We will deal with any notification of spillage of commercial waste where due care has not been taken.

Damaged / Faulty Street Lights - report online

Types of roadside lighting in the borough include street lights, traffic lights, pedestrian beacons and illuminated bollards. Road and pedestrian safety can be put at risk when lighting becomes damaged or faulty, so it is important that all incidents are reported to the council as soon as possible.

Damaged / Obstructed Pavements - report online

Thurrock Council has responsibility for the maintenance of pavements and footpaths in the borough. Dangerous pavements can result in accidents if the surface has become uneven, or where paving stones have been stolen, or if an obstruction blocks access for pedestrians. Please notify us of any problems with pavements.

Damaged Walls - report online

If you see a boundary wall (old or new) and you believe it may be dangerous, please let us know so that one of our Building Control Surveyors can check it and have the danger removed. This includes highway retaining walls and walls providing a safety barrier.

Dead Animal Removal - report online

Thurrock Council provides a service of collection and removal of dead animals from public highways and council owned land. Please note that we are unable to collect animals from private land, commercial premises or home addresses.

Discarded Roadwork Signs & Cones - report online

Temporary signs and traffic cones are used to advise motorists and prevent accidents when maintenance work is carried out on our highways. However, these can become a nuisance or hazardous if not removed promptly when works have been completed. You should let us know whenever this occurs.

Discarded Shopping Trolleys - report online

Shopping trolleys that have been removed from supermarkets and discarded in parks or rivers, or by roadsides, are not only unsightly but also present a environmental hazard. We strongly discourage the discarding of shopping trolleys and aim to ensure that our communities and public spaces are not spoiled in this way.

Discarded Syringes - report online

Discarded syringes can be a major health hazard. Thurrock Council will arrange for the removal and disposal of needles, syringes and other drug related items that have been discarded in the environment and which may pose a risk to public safety. You should not try and clean these up yourself.

Fly Posting - report online

Fly Posting is the illegal unauthorised placing of any sign, poster, leaflet or sticker for promotional purposes on a street sign, street cabinet or private property. Fly posting causes the area to look untidy and can cause damage to street furniture. If you notice any fly posting please let us know so that we can make arrangements for its removal.

Fly Tipping - report online

Fly Tipping is the illegal deposit of any waste onto land that has no licence to accept waste. Waste can include domestic waste, large household items such as fridges or mattresses, garden refuse, builders' rubble, clinical waste, tyres, etc. Please note the Council is not able to deal with rubbish dumped on private land.

Graffiti - report online

Graffiti is a form of illegal vandalism when it is deliberately applied to private or public property without consent. The council will arrange for the removal of any graffiti reported. We give especially high priority in instances where graffiti which is racist, threatening or offensive in any way.

Grass Cutting - report online

Thurrock Council is responsible for the cutting of grass on public land within the borough. You may notify us if you feel that grass on public land is not being cut on a regular basis, or if there has been a problem with the way this service is delivered.

Gritting / Snow Clearance - report online

The council will grit primary and secondary roads within the borough when weather conditions make driving hazardous. In severe winter weather, the council will keep roads and pavements clear of snow and ice. You should notify the council if weather conditions have made the roads unsafe.

Highway Potholes - report online

An important aspect of road maintenance is the repair of potholes where the surface of a road has been broken, damaged or eroded, creating a potential risk to road users. Please notify Thurrock Council of any potholes that occur in the borough's roads.

Highway Spillages / Obstructions - report online

The local authority is responsible for keeping the highway clean and free from spillages and obstructions. Where spillages are of a hazardous nature, the local police and fire service may also be involved in the incident and road closures may be required. Please report any spillage or obstruction that could cause a serious danger to road users.

Overflowing Litter Bins - report online

Litter in a public place is unsightly, dangerous to animals, and an offence. The council provides and maintains litter bins to prevent the depositing of litter in public places. Bins are emptied on a regular basis. Unemptied or overflowing litter bins should be reported to the council.

Uncleaned / Damaged Road Signs - report online

Thurrock Council has responsibility for installing signs to regulate traffic and to provide warnings to drivers of hazards ahead. It is also our responsibility to ensure that these signs are clear and well-maintained. Please let us know if a road sign in the borough has become unclear and requires cleaning.

Uncleaned / Obstructed Verges - report online

The majority of grass verges adjacent to roads are within the public highway. Thurrock Council is required to keep these safe, unobstructed and well-maintained. Please report any problems with the borough's verges. Note: if the problem relates to an abandoned vehicle, please use the Abandoned Vehicles form.

Uncleaned Streets & Markets - report online

Thurrock Council is responsible for cleaning streets, gullies, car parks, market grounds and other public areas in the borough to prevent a build up of litter, leaves or any other waste materials which could pose a risk to public health and safety. Uncleaned streets and markets should be reported.

Vandalism - report online

Thurrock Council has introduced CCTV and street wardens in the borough as a deterrent to the wilful or malicious damage of property, yet acts of vandalism can still occur. The council will carry out repairs wherever vandalism is reported to have taken place on public property.
