Thurrock Council provides a service to help Social Enterprises develop locally, along with a low carbon business programme.
Thurrock Council is committed to providing services that people need and to do this we need to consult and involve local people.
You can find out what consultations are currently taking place or have taken place in the past via our Consultations section.
Thurrock Council's Community Development Service aims to support the effective engagement of Thurrock's diverse communities in responding to local need, and shaping local policy and services.
The service supports the empowerment of communities to define their own needs and develop appropriate responses, often in partnership with key agencies including Thurrock Council.
Much of this is achieved through community governance structures, including community forums and the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) 'Shaping Thurrock'.
Communities can be defined by the groups where people find a common interest. Often communities identify with the area they live, and the service supports twenty Community Forums covering the whole of Thurrock.
Thurrock's Voluntary Sector is an increasingly important partner to the Council as a provider of many services that improve citizen's quality of life and compliment public services. The sector is also well placed to speak up for service users.
The Community Development Service works to support the ability of the voluntary, community and faith sectors to play a full and equal role as partners in Thurrock. The service support the voluntary, community and faith sectors through:
