Community Grants - Suggested Sources

The following information is intended as a brief summary of funding opportunities in Thurrock. In all cases, the specific criteria and application process for each fund should be considered before making applications.

Groups can raise funds through selling Community Chest raffle tickets - purchase price 50p and sell at £1. Funding can also be obtained through a small grants application process (n.b. applicants are encouraged to sell draw tickets). Draw tickets are available from November to July each year. Applications are looked at regularly throughout the year (usually on a monthly basis), but there are no set panel dates.

The Cabinet invites applications from young people in Thurrock aged between 13-19 years (disabled 25 years). Projects should benefit young people in Thurrock and meet one of the Every Child Matters outcomes. They have an annual amount of approx. £150,000. Panel meets monthly.

Limited funds up to 2010. Interested in small projects (up to approx £12k) that support public amenities where ongoing revenue is secure, and public access assured. Projects must fall into specific geographic areas - mainly around East Tilbury / Mucking Landfill site. Application form - specific criteria must be met and an initial discussion worthwhile.

Grants are available to areas across South Ockendon, North Stifford, Stifford Clays, Grays and Blackshots area (north of Long Lane) Aveley and Purfleet (west of the railway) to support improvements in the physical and social environment. The general public must be able to benefit from projects. Contact Andy Furze for an application form and to discuss potential applications. The panel meets quarterly.

The Community Foundation manages over 46 different funds - charitable groups should check criteria and apply on a generic form. Grassroots Grants are also available of up to £5,000 to not-for-profit voluntary or community groups which have less than £30,000. annual income and have been active for more than 12 months. Separate application form. Two annual rounds by application: January and September. Grassroots Grants is a rolling programme with decisions monthly.

The panel allocates funding via small grants and SLAs to further voluntary sector activity in support of Council's priorities. Organisations must work across the whole borough and be constituted. Meets annually in Autumn each year.

Voluntary and Community groups who are charitable in purpose, and must have a constitution and bank account and working for the benefit of people in Thurrock. Applications must be received by the 28th of each month.

Local residents, or voluntary community and faith groups, can make applications for funding to support improvements with relevant geographic neighbourhoods in their forum area. Applications must be made to the Forum either by attendance at their quarterly meeting or via email. These have to be agreed by the Committee and approved by the Portfolio holder.

A project from either partner agencies, or community and voluntary groups, that contributes to the reduction of crime and anti-social behaviour and assisting the Partnership and its different delivery groups achieve their targets. The long-term strategic targets are: To reduce the number of incidents of crime, anti-social behaviour and disorder, to bring extra support and protection to the vulnerable, to reduce death and serious injury through accidents and fire, to create a safe community by promoting tolerance and good citizenship.

Thurrock Council and Shaping Thurrock Local Strategic Partnership is working together with the East of England Agency (EEDA) to encourage economic participation by providing a funding programme which is available to Civil Society organisations, Social Enterprises, Charities, Community and Voluntary organisations, Development Trust and public sector bodies (including schools). The aim is to award grants to projects that share the values reflected in the key aspirations of the programme, which include; increasing the number of people employed in the community, creating social enterprises, reducing the proportion of working age adults without qualifications and reducing the number of those not in education, employment or training (NEET).
