Choosing a childminder

A Childminder is someone who will care for your child/children in their own home. This means that they may provide full day, part time, or out-of-school care.

What am I looking for?

All childminders are required be registered with OFSTED. This means that every three years they will be inspected to monitor the quality of care that they are providing.

This inspection looks at the safety of the home; the records the childminder keeps, the insurance, toys, the daily routine and good care practise of the childminder.

Each childminder will have a registration certificate, and an up-to-date inspection report, which are always available for you to see

All registered childminders are Police and Health checked, prior to registration.

Go on a visit!

Always visit a childminder that you are interested in sending your child to. During the visit, feel free to ask questions about the care that your child will receive. Questions could include things such as the usual daily routine, other children that the childminder may care for, and what sort of activities and outings will be provided for your child.

Childminders are happy for you to visit them on more than one occasion.
