Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education (SACRE)

Thurrock SACRE is a statutory body and meets three times a year at the Civic Offices in New Road, Grays. Every Local Authority (LA) has a duty to set up a local SACRE. SACRE's main function is to advise the LA on matters relating to Religious Education (RE) and to Collective Worship. Each year SACREs are bound to report to the Qualifications Curriculum Authority (QCA) on the advice and guidance it has offered to the LA.

SACRE ensures that:

• the Local Authority reviews its Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education on a regular basis;
• publishes an Annual Report of its work;
• offers guidance on resources and methods of teaching and in consultation with Thurrock Schools;
• monitors the quality of provision for RE and Collective Acts of Worship in Thurrock.

Representation on SACRE is according to current religious proportionality.
