75th Anniversary of Thurrock Council

As Thurrock Council celebrates its 75th anniversary we look back on the rich history of the area and some of the major events that have helped to shape it. Information is kindly provided by Thurrock Museum.

1942 - Funds raised to adopt a mine sweeper

The minesweeper HMS Porcupine was adopted by Thurrock after extensive fund-raising during a Warship Week campaign.

A commemorative shield was handed over to thank the community for its generosity. Tragically the ship was sunk the following year.
