What Is Thurrock?
The Borough of Thurrock is situated on the most southerly borders of the County of Essex on the north banks of the River Thames. It has a long history of settlement going back to Prehistoric times, while today it is the focus of industry, retailing and hub for transportation by sea, rail and road.
It extends into two 'Hundreds'
Barstable and Chafford Hundred
It consists of the following Medieval Parishes;
Aveley, Bulphan, Chadwell-St-Mary, Corringham, East Tilbury, Fobbing, Grays Thurrock, Horndon-on-the-Hill, Little Thurrock, Mucking, Orsett, South Ockendon, Stanford-Le-Hope, Stifford, West Thurrock (including Purfleet), West Tilbury.
It is rich with historical buildings and landscapes

- 23 Ancient woodlands
- 6 Conservation areas
- 15 Scheduled buildings of national importance
