Thurrock Council is committed to helping you find a home that is right for you, whether it be a council or housing association property or a home in the private sector. As you probably know, there is huge demand for council properties in the borough. Thurrock Council has a housing stock of 10,300 homes. There are around 5,500 families and single people on the housing register. About 1,000 properties become empty every year - you can see from this that we cannot offer a home to most people who join the housing register, even if they have been waiting for a number of years. We may be able to offer advice to those who wish to rent a property in the private sector, contact the Housing Advice Service for more information. If you are having problems paying your mortgage and are at risk of losing your home please contact the homeless prevention service about the Government Mortgage Rescue scheme. If you are eligible you could get financial assistance to stay in your home. To find out more, call the Thurrock Choice Homes Team on 01375 652880.
