Fraud and tenancy breaches can take a variety of forms:
Housing fraud contributes greatly to the housing shortage not only in Thurrock but throughout the UK.
Audit Commission figures show that housing waiting lists have increased by over 50% in the last six years and the National Housing Federation predicts that the number of people waiting for social housing may reach two million by 2011.
Fraud also costs the taxpayer large sums of money. It has been calculated that the public saves on average £75,000 for each property recovered and £26,000 for each right to buy stopped.
It is important that housing fraud does not go unreported.
Thurrock Council has a dedicated Housing Investigation Team. If you suspect anyone is committing housing fraud or is in breach of their tenancy then please contact the Housing Investigation Team. You can provide anonymous information and any details you do give about yourself will be kept in the strictest confidence.
