Consultation - Local Transport Implementation Plan - Strategic Environmental Assessment

The purpose of this consultation is to gain views and comments on the Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) for Thurrock's first Implementation Plan for its third Local Transport Plan (LTP3), covering the period 2011/12 to 2014/15.

By carrying out an SEA on the LTP3 implementation plan, Thurrock Council aimed to

• identify alternative implementation plan options for delivering sustainable transport improvements in Thurrock;
• identify and describe the environmental, social and economic effects of alternative implementation plan options;
• further enhance beneficial environmental effects of the plan;
• reduce and minimise the adverse environmental effects that may result from the implementation plan.

The objective of the SEA Directive is to provide for a high level of protection of the environment and to contribute to the integration of environmental considerations into the preparation and adoption of plans with a view to promoting sustainable development. All consultation responses received in relation to this report will be given consideration and, where appropriate, integrated into the final LTP3 implementation plan and the final Environmental Report, which will be submitted to the Department for Transport in spring 2011.
