The Legal & Democratic Services department forms part of the Corporate Development directorate, and is based at Thurrock Council's Civic Offices in Grays. Legal Services is made up of five divisions, namely:
In addition, the Elections Office and the Birth, Marriages & Deaths Registration Office report to the Head of Legal Services, who also acts as the Council's Monitoring Officer to ensure the Council carries out its functions within the remit of the law.
The aim of the Legal Services Department is to provide a high quality legal service to meet the needs of the Council and its departments, and to ensure the Council carries out all aspects of its functions lawfully.
