Subject:

FOI 220 - Venues - Licensing applications

Published Date:

11 January 2006

Request:

How many pubs and clubs have not applied for a new license?

Response:

As at 11/01/2006.

Thurrock Council know of only one venue previously licensed by Magistrates under the old system that will definitely have to close for a short period because they failed to submit their application in time.

However, it is impossible at this stage to give a precise and accurate number of premises that should have applied for a licence but have not. This is partly because in Essex some premises, such as late-night takeaway establishments have not previously been required to be licensed. These will be checked over the coming months. Thurrock Council will be working in conjunction with the police to ensure that all premises are complying with the new licensing regime, which takes effect from midnight tonight.
