Street Trading

Street Trading Consent Scheme for Mobile Traders

Street trading consents

Since 1 June 2010, mobile street traders are required to apply for a Street Trading Consent from Thurrock Council before they trade..

Street trading is the selling, exposing or offering for sale any article or living thing in a street.

In order to carry on the business of street trading within the borough of Thurrock Council, a person must first apply for and be granted a Street Trading Consent. It is an offence to trade without a consent. Traders without consent will be liable to prosecution

Thurrock Council cannot grant a pitch or a particular space from which to trade. It is the street trader's responsibility to obtain the necessary permissions or consents from the landowner before applying for a street trading Consent.

Street trading policy

Local Authorities (LAs) have a legal discretion to regulate street trading in their administrative area.

The purpose of this policy is to control street trading across the borough of Thurrock by means of a Street Trading Consent Scheme, whereby specific streets will be prohibited from any street trading at any time and the remaining streets will become Consent Streets.
