There is a 20-day period of inspection prior to the commencement of the audit. This period is always advertised in the local press. During the inspection period any member of the electorate may inspect and make copies of the accounts and relevant documents although you may have to pay a copying charge.
You may not inspect documents that are not relevant to the accounts or are otherwise legally protected. Written objections to the accounts must be made to the Audit Commission (Copy also to the Chief Finance Officer).
The Audit is completed and the audit opinion is issued within the 3 months after the Statement of Accounts are signed. The Audit Commission will formally notify the authority that the audit has been completed and a further advertisement will be placed in the local press disclosing the completion of the audit in the month following the audit completion.
