Friday, 16 May is Thurrock Council's Silver Surfers' day, a celebration of the contribution that over 50s can make to the internet.
Free sessions will be available for residents over 50 at most Thurrock libraries, with lessons on how to use email and surf the internet.
Aby Carew, people's network manager at Thurrock Libraries, said: "People are often cautious about new technology they're not familiar with, but the internet is actually much easier to use than they expect. It can open up whole new worlds, especially for older people."
Residents interested in taking part should contact their local library to check if it is participating. Leave your name, address and telephone number and library staff will get back to you with more details.
