On Monday 23 June 2008, children from 39 Schools within Thurrock as well as several instrumental ensembles run by Thurrock Music Services are travelling up the Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall for Thurrock Music Services 10th Anniversary Concert.
The concert is a celebration of the tenth anniversary of the establishment of Thurrock Music Services working for the young people of Thurrock since Unitary Status came into effect in April 1998.
About 1,000 children are involved and they have all been rehearsing very hard in their individual schools and ensembles. There will also be solos from the current Thurrock Young Musician of the Year, Tom Flanders and local musician Katherine Robb who was a BBC Young Musician of the Year Finalist this year. The programme is varied from classical, modern day musical to a song written by Thurrock children as part of a competition held by Thurrock Music Services.
Richard Brittain, Head of Thurrock Music Services, said, "This occasion provides a wonderful opportunity for the young musicians of Thurrock to showcase their many achievements of the past decade and to signal the beginning of the next stage of growth and development of music in Thurrock".
The Concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are available direct from the Southbank Centre's Box Office on Tel: 0871 663 2500. Further information about the concert is available from Esther O'Neill on Tel: 01375 413680 or email: eoneill@thurrock.gov.uk.
