Programmes like the BBC's Who Do You Think You Are have spurred lots of people on to research their own family history.
Have you ever wondered what your name means and where it originates?
If you are just starting out or perhaps are simply curious about how names come into existence then join professional family historians Meryl Catty and Audrey Gillett for a light-hearted and informative chat on the Name Game.
Belhus Library in Derry Avenue, South Ockendon, will be hosting an informal talk on Wednesday 17 September at 11am.
Tickets cost £2.50 and are available direct from Belhus Library on 01708 852398
Cllr Joy Redsell, Thurrock Council's Cabinet member for Community Culture and Leisure, said: "My family name's quite unusual and I'd be really interested in finding out where it came from. I'm sure Belhus Library will be packed with people asking similar questions ? book early so you don't miss out."
