A Children's Centre in South Ockendon now boasts a new service for local people.
A medical room was officially opened at the Ockendon Children's Centre in Afton Drive, earlier this month (September).
The room will be a base for local midwives to see expectant parents and will help encourage even more families into the centre.
The children from the nursery had the chance to meet Monica Poku one of the resident midwives and also made cakes for the invited guest to enjoy with a cup of tea at the opening.
Maggie Pollock chair for the nursery also opened a second room at the centre which will be used as office. She spoke of the importance of partnership working and the benefits of having the new office.
Children's Centres provide support and services to families with children under five and the nursery runs five days a week from 8am till 6pm.
Vanita Dutta, Thurrock Council's Area Children's Centre Manager said: "We are here at the heart of community to support the families in the area. There are fun groups running everyday for children. The families can also access training like IT and various family learning courses run by Thurrock Adult Community College."
