A South Ockendon primary school is celebrating because it has been awarded an outstanding verdict in all categories from government inspectors, Ofsted.
Dilkes Primary in Garron Lane was described as "an outstanding school" in the inspectors' report which goes on: "The excellent provision for pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development contributes to a stimulating curriculum that continues to be outstanding, as it was at the time of the last inspection. As a result, pupils become confident learners."
Everything from pupil behaviour, teaching and leadership receives the highest praise. Behaviour is described as "exemplary", and teaching as a "consistently high standard".
The report states: "The success of this school is due to outstanding leadership and management. The headteacher, leadership team and governing body share a commitment to ensuring high quality provision for all pupils, including those in the personalised learning centre, to enable them to achieve their full potential."
Head teacher Maureen Wright said: "This is a brilliant report that is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work on the part of everyone involved, pupils, staff, governors and parents. It is a fantastic achievement for the whole Dilkes community.
"Dilkes is a great place to work, filled with staff who are keen to ensure every child achieves highly and enjoys their learning. This was recognised by the inspectors in their letter to the children which highlighted how we 'make learning interesting and fun'."
Mrs Wright added: "Though we are delighted to be rated as 'outstanding' in all categories, we are not complacent and are already working on exciting plans for the future development of the school to make the provision even better."
Thurrock Council Leader, Cllr John Kent, said: "We have maintained that our aim is for every Thurrock school to be 'good' or 'outstanding' in Ofsted inspections and it is really pleasing to see Dilkes leading the way.
"My thanks go to all involved, for ensuring that the pupils are educated in a superb learning environment, enjoying great opportunities to succeed. This will help them throughout their school and educational careers and beyond."
