This week, the Governing Body at The Grays School unanimously agreed to register with the Department of Education with regards to becoming an academy.
Having registered its statement of intent, the school will work with a representative from the Department of Education to identify an appropriate sponsor for the school. All applications are considered on a case by case basis although examinations results over time, recent OFSTED inspection reports, rates of student progress and local factors will be taken into account.
The Governing Body believes that the conversion to academy status is the correct decision for the school and will be in the best long term interest for it's students.
Cllr Oliver Gerrish, Thurrock Councils Portfolio Holder for Education said: "This is good news and is yet another step in delivering the next stage of development to ensure that education in Thurrock is the best it can possibly be."
