Thurrock Council has confirmed the results of yesterday's by-election for Grays Riverside ward.

There was a 22% turnout and the number of votes recorded for each candidate is as follows:

  • Nicholas Anthony Edwards, Conservatives - 382
  • Nicholas Geri, British National Party - 552 (elected)
  • John Livermore, Liberal Democrat - 137
  • Remia Sear, Labour - 374

The council wishes to stress the importance of its policy of promoting diversity - fighting intolerance.
