This service provides carers with an opportunity to have a break from their role. We provide a short break in various ways.
The short break service provides respite care on Saturdays and Sundays at the Thurrock Carers Centre. We can bring your relative or friend to the centre any time between 9:00am and 4:00pm. You can make the arrangements in advance. If you have previously used the weekend service, you can contact us as late as Friday afternoon or even Saturday morning on 01375 413703 / 413640.
We encourage the person assessing the service to become involved in a range of activities. We charge for lunch and any refreshments we provide throughout the day. If personal care is needed, our trained staff will assist.
If you have to be out longer than the closure times of the respite breaks, a trained staff member can accompany your relative/friend home and stay with them until you return.
Carers sometimes need to take a break away from their relative/friend but are reluctant to leave them. If you need someone to visit your relative while you take a holiday, then this service is for you.
We provide trained staff to visit daily. We will agree and assess the number of times a day with you. This will then help you to go on holiday assured that the person you are caring for is receiving daily contact with another person who can provide the support and care they may need.
Telephone: 01375 413703 / 413640 for further information.
Carers often provide ongoing support to their loved one with a mental health condition. This can often be demanding and difficult isolating many carers themselves.
Thurrock Carer Centre can offer the following:
The Carers Support group meets on the second Thursday of each month from 7:30-9:00pm. All carers are welcome.
You can contact us directly on 01375 413640 or in person at the Thurrock Carers Centre.
The carers team, working in partnership with Open Access Substance Information Service for Adults (OASIS) and Mental After Care Association (MACA), provides information and support to anyone caring for, or concerned about someone's drug and alcohol issues.
The Carers Support Group meets every last Tuesday in the month from 7:00-9:00pm at Thurrock Carers Centre. They also provide support on a one-to-one basis at the centre or through a home visit.
You can get information and advice individually or at training events held at the centre. The team offer a safe environment for people to express their concerns to ensure that their individual needs are addressed.
If for any reason you, your relatives and friends are not happy with the care provided, talk directly to a staff member, the manager of Thurrock Carers Centre, or the customer services officer in Community Well-being. For further information, please visit our Customer Care page.
Our befrienders are trained to cope with the distress and upheaval that diagnosis can bring. They have all the information about services and groups in your local area.
