Sports & Leisure - Facilities

Thurrock has a wide range of sporting facilities within the borough, from outdoor pitches to leisure centres, and from golf clubs to athletics tracks. Sports and Leisure can offer information and advice on the following:

Active Places

Sport England's Active Places website allows you to search for fitness facilities all over the country. The idea of the Active Places database of facilities is that it is designed to make it easier for members of the public to take part in sport and physical activity, by finding out easily where they go to take part.

Outdoor Sports Facilities

Outdoor sports are not currently based within the remit of the Sports and Leisure Department, although there are a great number of facilities that are Council run.

Leisure/ Fitness Centres

There are a number of leisure centres in the borough; three of the main centres are run by Impulse Leisure. Impulse Leisure, which was formerly known as Thurrock Community Leisure Ltd, took over the operation of the Leisure Centres in the year 2000 from Thurrock Council. Impulse Leisure is a charitable trust, which means that it is a non-profit distributing organisation.

All of the leisure centres that Impulse manage are open to members and non-members, however, if you do purchase a membership you are able to use all of the leisure centres that they manage in the borough. Over 55s Membership Package - due to popular demand, Impulse Leisure has launched a new membership package for anyone over the age of 55. The package has been set up to entice this age group to exercise more, keep fit and healthy. The scheme allows customers to use any of the facilities at the centres between the hours of 10am and 3pm. The Civic Hall is a versatile venue, which can accommodate up to 750 people, and can be used for a wide variety of functions. The leisure centre shares the grounds of the country park with an 18 hole golf course, bar and restaurant. The facilities available at the leisure centre are:

Corringham New Fitness Suite

The new fitness suite has been fitted with state-of-the-art Techno Gym equipment, which have been biomechanically manufactured and ergonomically designed to suit user's needs best.

The cardiovascular equipment have all been fitted with individual touch-screen televisions allowing users to choose their channels whilst still being able to monitor their workout.

Furthermore, like Blackshots, Corringham is a fully inclusive gym aiming to tackle the physical, communication and cultural barriers facing disabled people when using fitness facilities. The IFI approved equipment provides users with the same opportunities to train and exercise as non-disabled users.

Once inducted, each member will receive a wellness key that contains their personal training programme. When the key is inserted into the Techno Gym equipment the screen will coach gym members throughout their workouts and also track, monitor and improve users performance, technique and fitness.

For those who enjoy taking part in classes, they will find the large aerobics studio bright, airy and very spacious. The studio will hold a range of classes to suit members' individual needs, interests and goals.

Don't forget if you are a current gym member to book your Wellness induction and pick up your FREE Techno Gym key. The inductions last 30 minutes and will allow you to try out the kit.
