Aged 50 or over? Interested in taking up a new sport or activity? Then why not come along to the Over Fifties Games on Thursday, 7 September at the Civic Hall, Blackshots, and try a few out.
Organised by Thurrock Council's Sports and Leisure department, in partnership with the Primary Care Trust and Council for Voluntary Services, the free event is being held to encourage older people to get involved in sport and physical activity.
There will be an opportunity to try a variety of sports including badminton, short tennis, bowls, archery, walking with the Ramblers and table tennis, while Impulse Leisure will be providing activities including aqua aerobics and Pilates. Places will be limited on all events so early booking is advised.
The day will be split into two sessions. From 1 to 4pm activities will be aimed at the over 65s, and from 5 to 8pm at those aged 50 to 65. However, no one will be turned away.
It only takes 30 minutes of exercise a day to become fitter, healthier and happier - plus joining a local sports club can be a good place to meet new friends and socialise.
Designed to be fun, the day has been organised to show just how easy it can be to incorporate physical activity into everyday life, and it is linked to the Everyday Sport Roadshow that was held at Lakeside Shopping Centre on 6 May.
For more information, or to book a space for any of the activities, please contact the Sports and Leisure Department on 01375 413966 or email sports.development@thurrock.gov.uk
