Just five minutes from Tilbury Port is Tilbury Fort, owned by English Heritage. It is one of Britain's finest examples of a star-shaped Bastion fortress from the 17th century. Coalhouse Fort, built to defend the Thames from invasion, is also near by and well worth a visit. You can walk along the river path from Tilbury Fort to Coalhouse Fort and there is a pub at both ends!

Also a short taxi ride will take you to Basildon's Festival Leisure Park where there are numerous Restaurants, Clubs, a Cinema and a Bowling Alley all in one area.
At Tilbury Post Office you can not only purchase stamps to send those postcards back home, but also change foreign currency to sterling.
