The Highways Department of Thurrock Council has a programme of inspections of the Highways in the borough. If the department fails in its duty to maintain the highways the council may be held liable to pay compensation if a loss is suffered. Providing the council can show that there is a reasonable system in place to maintain the highway, it will not be liable to pay compensation for any accidents caused as a result of highway defect.
Please advise us of any hazardous defect so that we can inspect and arrange to make the highway safe.
To make an insurance claim resulting from a highway defect, precise details of the incident should be put in writing to us. Any invoices for repairs already carried out should also be enclosed. All insurance claims received will be forwarded to our Insurers who will correspond with the claimant directly.
