The Thurrock Licensed Drivers Association (TLDA) in liaison with Thurrock Council Licensing Section usually identifies the need for taxi ranks in the Borough although requests from other sources are considered if the need for a taxi rank can be demonstrated. Suggestions for possible locations are assessed and consulted upon before any decision is taken. The Council then decides in consultation with the (TLDA) how many taxis the rank should hold and the times of enforcement. In most cases capacity is limited to the location of the rank.
Engineering Services Traffic Section carry out the preparation of the Traffic Orders for the Taxi Rank and the advertising of the Orders in the Local Newspaper. The Traffic Orders can take between 4-5 months to implement because of the required legal statutory process.
Following the completion of the legal process the taxi ranks signs and markings are installed on the highway.
