Your blue bin for recyclable waste will be collected weekly on the same day as your brown bin (kitchen and garden) and grey/green bin (non-recyclable) collections.
Please note: No side waste or excess bags/sacks will be collected.
Your wheeled bins must be presented for collection at the boundary of your property or agreed collection point by 7am on the day of collection.
Please note: Recycling should be put direct into your bin loose and not in bags.
Every year each household produces, on average, enough waste to fill a garage, most of it disposed of in landfill sites. This method of waste disposal cannot be sustained at current levels as sites are rapidly becoming full to capacity.
Recycling saves energy: recycling existing material uses less energy and pollutes the environment less than producing new materials.
Recycling saves raw materials: recycling programmes help to conserve the reducing stock of raw materials.
Recycling saves landfill space: rubbish that is not recycled is collected by Thurrock and tipped on a landfill site. This operation is becoming more expensive and is also a waste of land. Decomposing rubbish also produces methane gas and contributes to the greenhouse effect.
By using your blue recycling bin you can divert your waste to recycling. This will help reduce waste disposal problems in the future, and provide an alternative to the increasing use of raw materials.
