Fly tipping costs and information on how the Council is tackling this problem.
Last year we spent £89.5k on fly tipping
The problem areas are rural areas in Thurrock - lanes etc.
Thurrock Council has taken environmental crime very seriously and since June 2004 have taken forward 22 successful prosecutions. They are continuing to developed this by addressing the powers within the new Clean Neighbourhood Act 2005 by employing additional Environmental Enforcement Officers to patrol the borough and deal with issues such as littering, dog fouling , fly tipping.
Thurrock Council asks residents to ensure they dispose of their waste in the correct way and do not pay someone to dispose of their waste unless they have checked their waste disposal procedures, and have asked for copies of their waste disposal licence. Thurrock Council advises that if the third party has not got the appropriate license the public should avoid using their services. Often people pay someone with a van and the Council finds it later dumped.
Thurrock Council also asks residents to be vigilant and ensure that they report anything they see sing the Thurrock Council's Contact Centre on 01375 652955 or via the besmart@Thurrock.gov.uk email address.
Thurrock Council has also recently launched the Be Smart campaign which will assist in tackling this problem.
