We must keep footpath and bridleway users a safe distance from construction sites. This includes walkers, cyclists and horse-riders.
We have temporarily closed the following 4 footpaths to make sure there is enough space to carry out the construction works safely for the duration of the project. Although temporary, the closures will be long-term for the duration of the project.
A13 widening – footpath temporary closures
Alternative routes are shown on each plan.
Horndon Road bridge – Bridleway 48
A new bridleway bridge will replace the existing Horndon Road bridge that links Horndon on the Hill with Stanford-le-Hope via Bridleway 48.
The new bridge will be lifted into place before the current bridge is closed, but both bridges are likely to be closed for one weekend while demolition works take place.
A minibus shuttle service will be provided so pedestrians and cyclists can continue to cross the A13 at this time. Cyclists will be able to take their bikes on the minibus.
The works will avoid school days – dates will be advertised in advance on these web pages.
Footpath 81 – Saffron Gardens Farm
There will be an increase in construction and farm vehicle movements along Footpath 81 through Saffron Gardens Farm while major National Grid gas works take place alongside harvesting work.
Gas works are expected to continue until the end of October 2019.
Once the construction work is complete, there will be permanent changes to the current arrangement of footpaths in the area. Details of permanent closures and alternative routes are provided below.

We are working with Thurrock’s Local Access Forum to make sure footpath users are kept informed of any changes.
