Temporary barriers and narrow lanes are installed along the A13 so that most of the widening works to take place by the side of the road, without having to reduce the number of lanes for traffic.
Vehicles more than 2 metres wide – such as HGVs – are prohibited from travelling in the lanes closest to the central reservation.
Along the A13, a temporary 40mph speed limit and average speed camera system is in place.
A 30mph speed limit is in force on the Orsett Cock roundabout and along the A1013 Stanford Road for the duration of the works.
Lane restrictions are in place on the entry and exit slip roads at the Orsett Cock and The Manorway junctions.
At times, there will restrictions on other roads in the local area, including the Orsett Cock roundabout, A1013 Stanford Road and the A128 Brentwood Road.
Overnight there will be:
- some lane closures on the A13 in both directions
- some slip road closures at the Stanford-le-Hope and Orsett junctions, with diversions in place
- some road closures on the A13, with diversions in place
Occasionally we will have to close the A13 fully in both directions over the weekend, from Friday at 10pm to Monday at 5am, so that bridge demolition and lifting work can take place safely.
We expect there may be up to 12 full closures during whole project, but we will work to reduce this number. We will use carefully planned diversions to minimise the effect on local roads whenever there are full closures.
The first full weekend closure is planned to take place in late summer 2019. More details will be published when confirmed.
Please drive carefully through the road works and to pay attention to signs and drive according to the conditions.
CCTV is in use, with a free vehicle recovery service able to move broken down vehicles away from the works as quickly as possible.
