Appeals process
If your child’s school admission application was unsuccessful, you may wish to appeal against the decision.
All appeals will be heard by an Independent Appeal Panel, and if your appeal is successful then a place for your child must be provided at that school.
How to appeal
You can appeal by emailing our School Appeals team with:
- your child's full name and date of birth
- your contact details
- the name of the school you appealing for your child to attend
The School Appeals team will check your details and, if you are eligible to appeal, they will send you appeal application forms.
You should complete the forms as soon as possible and return them by email or post.
Deadlines and hearing dates
The deadline for submitting a school admissions appeal was Monday 16 May 2022 for all admissions to the 2022/23 school year.
Appeals received before this deadline will be heard during the main round of appeals – dates are shown in our appeals timetable.
Any appeal form received after this deadline will still be heard, but it may not be possible until after the new September term has started.
If you appeal during the main round of appeals for your child to receive a place at a new school year from September, your appeal will be heard within 40 school days of the deadline to appeal.
If you appeal outside of the main round of appeals – called an 'in-year' appeal – your appeal will be heard within 30 school days of our School Appeals team receiving your form.
The exact date of your appeal hearing will be sent to you once we receive your application forms. Appeal hearing documents will be sent 5 working days before your appeal hearing.
You should make every effort to attend the appeal so you can explain your case in person. If you decide not to appear in person, your appeal will only consider written evidence.
Appeal decisions
We will tell you the appeal decision within 5 working days of your appeal being heard.
Once a decision has been made you cannot appeal again for the same school in the same academic year, unless there has been a significant and material change either to your circumstances or the circumstances of the school.
