Coronavirus (COVID-19) business grants

Tier 2, 3, 4 and national restrictions support

This page is about support for the period from 2 December 2020 only – go to our support for businesses page for advice covering other periods.

The government is providing funds to support businesses that have been most severely affected by national and local coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions.

You can register for financial support if your business:

  • pays business rates
  • is in the retail, hospitality, accommodation or leisure sector
  • has been either forced to close or severely affected by local restrictions – Tier 2, Tier 3 or Tier 4 – or national restrictions since 2 December 2020

How much you may get

If your business has been forced to close by law, you may be eligible for a fixed amount set by the government:

  • £667 every 2 weeks, if its rateable value is £15,000 or under
  • £1,000 every 2 weeks, if its rateable value is more than £15,000 and less than £51,000
  • £1,500 every 2 weeks, if its rateable value is more than £51,000

The amounts above are the government's standard rates – we are awaiting new government guidance for Tier 4 before confirming local top-ups for any tier restrictions since 2 December.

For full guidance on whether your business is eligible for these payments, go to GOV.UK: check if you're eligible for the coronavirus Local Restrictions Support Grant (for closed businesses).

If your business is within the hospitality or leisure sector, and has not been forced to close by law but has been severely affected by the Tier 2 or Tier 3 local restrictions, you may be eligible for a payment of:

  • £467 every 2 weeks, if its rateable value is £15,000 or under
  • £700 every 2 weeks, if its rateable value is more than £15,000 and less than £51,000
  • £1,050 every 2 weeks, if its rateable value is more than £51,000

For full guidance on whether your business is eligible for these payments, go to GOV.UK: check if you're eligible for the coronavirus Local Restrictions Support Grant (for open businesses).

If your business is a 'wet-led' pub deriving less than 50% of sales from food, you may also be eligible for a one-off payment of £1,000. For full guidance, go to GOV.UK: check if you're eligible for the Christmas Support Payment for wet-led pubs.

Following the announcement of national restrictions on 5 January 2021, if your business has been forced to close and is within the retail, hospitality or leisure sector then, in addition to the payments above, your business may be eligible for a one-off top-up amount of:

  • £4,000, if its rateable value is £15,000 or under
  • £6,000, if its rateable value is more than £15,000 and less than £51,000
  • £9,000, if its rateable value is more than £51,000

If your business is eligible for any of these 4 types of payment, you should register for a local restrictions support grant below.

Do not register if your business is not eligible for any of these types of payment – instead, check whether you're eligible to receive a local restrictions discretionary support grant.
