Filming in Thurrock

Coronavirus (COVID-19) – location filming

Filming activity and the activities of associated cast, crew and contractors must follow British Film Commission coronavirus (COVID-19) guidance. When you apply to film, please give as much detail as possible. We will need a full risk assessment, and we may ask for additional coronavirus (COVID-19) safety precautions to be put in place.

In focus - Purfleet-on-Thames

Purfleet-on-Thames is at the west side of Thurrock, within the M25. It is very close to London, just an hour's drive from all 6 London airports, which makes it a great location for filming without the city's costs or traffic.

The town is home to High House Production Park and The Backstage Centre, both of which have a wide variety of event spaces that can be used for many filming needs. The latter is a production and rehearsal venue with a fully sound-proofed sound stage space. It can be purpose-built for TV, film, commercials, music, dance, theatre and live events.

The area is currently subject to large-scale regeneration project, in which the council has major land holdings. This means there are numerous exciting areas for filming – many previously-unused. A lot of construction will be taking place over many years, into the 2030s, so there will be plenty of building sites that can be used for backdrops or sets

Send us details if you're interested in using this unique site for your film location.

Feature – vacant grassland (former Yara Terminal)

This large vacant area is located next to the River Thames with great views of the City of London to the west and Queen Elizabeth II Bridge to the east. It is mainly grassland with pathways that run alongside the river wall and the nearby c2c railway line.

The site can be accessed through a private track in between derelict housing, and is near Purfleet train station. There is no electricity available at present.

This is a characterful site in transition, with great potential for location filming.
