Finding somewhere to live

Emergency housing if you're homeless

We will provide help if you're legally homeless. This will depend on:

  • your eligibility
  • your level of need
  • whether your homelessness is your fault

Go to GOV.UK – emergency housing if you're homeless. You can also get independent advice if you are worried your home may be repossessed – go to GOV.UK: repossession.

If your homelessness can't be prevented, we will carry out an assessment and investigate your circumstances to see whether you and your household:

  • are eligible for assistance
  • are homeless or threatened with homelessness within 28 days
  • are homeless or threatened with homelessness through no fault of your own
  • have a priority need
  • have a local connection

Anyone placed in temporary accommodation will need to pay a weekly charge.

Domestic abuse

We will see whether the sanctuary scheme is an option for you. Go to our domestic abuse page.

Rough sleepers

If you are concerned about someone sleeping rough in the borough you can contact StreetLink, either online or through their 24-hour national helpline.

StreetLink connects rough sleepers with local support. Together with other councils, we also work with St Mungo's Broadway – a homelessness organisation that helps people who are sleeping rough across the region.
