Cause of fire

Publication date:
Friday 6 March 2020

On 07/02/2020 at around 00.00 -2.00 a fire developed in Bevan house, Lair avenue, Grays RM16 2NS.

5 fire engines attended. The 4th, 5th and 6th floor filled with smoke.

My question is as follows.

What caused the fire?

There was a small isolated fire in the electrical intake cupboard on the 3rd floor, at this stage it is understood the fire was caused by an faulty main fuse supplying one of the residential flats. The fire was contained in the intake cupboard as required and the power network distributor UK Power Networks attended and undertook the required reinstatement works to their infrastructure following the fire.

The Council will ensure all reinstatement works are undertaken as required so all passive fire stopping measures are in place and remain fit for purpose.
