Council Tax Discount SMI Disregard

Publication date:
Thursday 23 January 2020
Request:

Please can you tell me the number of households within your council who as at or around 1st January 2020:-

1. Are receiving Council Tax Discount SMI Disregard.

And of them:-

2. How many have been backdated to the date the GP certified they were suffering from Severe Mental Impairment (SMI).

Response:

1. We have 233 SMI Discount Disregards and 271 wholly exempt SMI properties

2. Without looking at every case, and the supporting documentation, we are unable to advise how many have been back dated to the GP certified date. However we usually backdate SMI disregards/Exemptions to the date certified by the GP providing the impaired person is in receipt of or would be entitled to the qualifying benefit from that date.
