6. NIL We have not launched any particular initiatives solely to prevent suicides in either gender. However, suicide prevention is, and has been a desired outcome of a number of other programmes. For example, transformation of the children and young people’s mental health services delivered by North East London Foundation Trust was driven by the need to improve mental health care for young people, but it is hoped this will have prevented young people of both genders from reaching crisis point. As a council we have participated in two audits over the last three years with Essex and Southend Councils, with the aim of reviewing data on our completed suicides to determine any patterns / common factors to focus our preventative efforts. The numbers we have in Thurrock are relatively small and we therefore don’t have frequently used ‘hotspots’ in the borough. What the data has shown us is the importance of working collectively with partners to intervene much earlier amongst groups at higher risk
