Q1. What is the refugee status of the individual missing children (not missing children episodes)

An asylum seeker is a person who has left their country and is seeking protection from persecution and serious human rights violations in another country, but who hasn't yet been legally recognized as a refugee and is waiting to receive a decision on their asylum claim – UASC may not necessarily have refugee status.

Some children were part of a cohort at one missing episode but not in a cohort for another episode within the same year. As the question is based on children, these children have been counted as having social care involvement.

Q5. Do any of the missing children (not missing children episodes) have Youth Justice involvement?  We do not capture the data in this way as the Youth Offending Service has a separate data base.

We are unable to provide an exact number for question above as:

  • There is a low number involved.
  • The release of this information could identify individuals which would constitute their personal data under the Data Protection Act
  • There is no prior expectation on the part of these individuals that their personal information would be published in the wider public domain under the FOI Act
  • Personal data of any other person is exempt under section 40 (2) of the Data Protection Act.

However in the interests of transparency we are able to provide this information to you categorised as fewer than 5 to give you an indication of the figures
