Get involved in planning

Community involvement

Our Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out how we will involve people in setting planning policies and deciding planning applications. It includes who will be involved, who will be consulted, how this will be done and when it will be done.

Revised Statement of Community Involvement 2022 consultation

We are inviting comments on a revised SCI from Friday 15 July until 5pm, Monday 5 September 2022.

Comments must be received before the consultation closes, otherwise they may not be considered.

To read our draft SCI document and send us your comments, go to Have my say: Statement of Community Involvement 2022. You don't have to register to send comments, but we will be able to keep you updated on the SCI's progress if you do.

You can read a paper copy of the SCI in any Thurrock library during opening hours – go to find a library. Paper copies of a form for making comments are also available in libraries.

The best way to send comments is via Have my say: Statement of Community Involvement 2022. If you are unable to do so, you can also send comments by email or post to the addresses below.

After the consultation has closed, we will:

  • consider the comments we've received
  • prepare a consultation statement
  • if necessary, make amendments to the draft SCI before it is adopted

Once adopted, the revised SCI will replace the current version adopted in 2015, below.

Current Statement of Community Involvement

Our current SCI was adopted in November 2015.

We also prepared a Local Plan engagement strategy, phase 1, which builds upon the basic requirements set out in the SCI.

This strategy was approved in December 2015.
