Have your say on planning policy statements of community of involvement

A Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) says how people can get involved in the planning process and have a say on how the area will develop. We are consulting on draft SCI documents for Thurrock and for south Essex.

Have your say on statements of community involvement. Comments must be received by 5pm, Monday 27 January 2020.

Community involvement

Our Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) sets out how we will involve people in setting planning policies and deciding planning applications. It includes who will be involved, who will be consulted, how this will be done and when it will be done.

Revised Statement of Community Involvement

We are consulting on 2 new draft SCI documents:

  • a revised Thurrock Statement of Community Involvement
  • a South Essex Plan Statement of Community Involvement

You can have your say by commenting on our revised draft SCI. Once this has been adopted, it will replace the current SCI that was adopted in 2015.

The South Essex Plan SCI has been prepared by the 6 local authorities  – Basildon, Brentwood, Castle Point, Rochford, Southend and Thurrock – together with Essex County Council. This SCI will be added (an 'addendum') to the Thurrock SCI.

The easiest way to have your say on each of the documents is online.

Comments on each SCI must be received by 5pm, Monday 27 January 2020.

You can download the 2 draft documents below. You can also download a letter to residents, which includes details of other ways to have your say on the draft documents.

Current Statement of Community Involvement

Our current Statement of Community Involvement was adopted in November 2015.

We have also prepared a Local Plan engagement strategy, phase 1, which builds upon the basic requirements set out in the Statement of Community Involvement.

This strategy was approved in December 2015.
