Library visits for groups and schools

Coronavirus (COVID-19) – libraries

All libraries are closed until further notice. You can access newspapers and magazines and e-books and e-audio online.

Return dates for loaned items have been extended until the end of July so you don't need to renew. All fines for overdue items will be waived. You cannot reserve or return books at present – please keep hold of your borrowed items and do not put them in library book drops or letterboxes.

School visits

All school classes are invited to visit their local library.

To book a visit contact:

Grays library
Thameside Complex, Orsett Road, Grays, RM17 5DX

: 01375 413 976

: grays.library@thurrock.gov.uk

Visits can be made to suit a school’s special requirements.

Your visit will include:

  • an introduction to the library and its services
  • finding stories
  • finding non-fiction and information books
  • time to explore and choose books to borrow

Each term we ask a different year group to visit.

Term Year group
Autumn term
  • Year 5s
  • reception classes for Booktime
Spring term
  • Year 3s
Summer term
  • Years 1 and 2

We will send a letter to confirm your booking and a library joining form which can be copied and given to every child. A risk assessment is available on request.

We help reading skills by getting every child to become a library member and read a wide range of books.
