If your child is starting a new school year in September, you should apply for help with home to school travel no later than 31 May – if you apply after this date we may not be able to arrange travel support in time for the beginning of term.
You should only apply if your child is eligible for help – check who is eligible.
If you are currently living temporary accommodation, you should use our exceptional circumstances form – you should not use the form below.
After you apply
We will work to make a decision on your application within 10 working days of receiving all the information we need.
If we can offer transport support, we will make arrangements and let you know as soon as possible.
We will decide what type of help with travel we can provide – go to travel arrangements we can offer.
Any support we provide will be for a maximum of 1 school year. It will be reviewed during that time. You must apply again if you need support after this period.
You must tell us straight away if your circumstances change and any information you included on your home-to-school travel support application would now be different. We may stop providing support in some circumstances– for example, if a medical condition improves or you move home.
In some cases – called 'exceptional circumstances' – even if your child is not eligible for free travel, we may still be able to make arrangements for them, but there may be a cost for you to pay.
For information, go to our page on exceptional circumstances.
You can appeal against any decision we make. Information is included in our full policy.
