Applying for support

If you think you are entitled to assistance to attend a primary or secondary school, you must complete and return the relevant application form.

All students in years 7 to 11 - aged 11 to 16 - must include a passport-style photo when submitting their application. The student's name and birthday must be written on the reverse of the photo. Delay in supplying a photo will delay a pass being produced.

Your application will be assessed to determine eligibility. You will be informed of the decision in writing. Normally it can take up to 10 days to arrange transport, but this may increase during the build up to the new academic year.


If you are refused transport you can appeal against the decision by writing a letter to the Awards and Benefits Section. Your appeal should include:

  • any exceptional circumstances you would like us to consider
  • relevant supporting evidence
