Essex Police have launched a murder investigation following the tragic deaths of 39 people whose bodies were found in the container of a lorry at Waterglade Industrial Park, Eastern Avenue, Grays on Wednesday 23 October.

Condolences and flowers

Thurrock Council has opened a book of condolence for members of the public to share their sympathies. The book is available in the reception area of the Civic Offices, New Road, Grays, RM17 6SL.

The Civic Offices are open from:

  • 8am to 5:15pm, Monday to Thursday
  • 8am to 4:45pm on Fridays

A temporary area for floral and memorial tributes has been created in Mulberry Gardens, High Street, Grays, RM17 6LL – between the Civic Offices and St Peter's and St Paul's Church.

Mulberry Gardens are open from:

  • 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday

The Civic Offices and Mulberry Gardens are both closed at weekends.

Cllr Terry Piccolo, Mayor of Thurrock, said: "This is a tragic incident and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of those who lost their lives in this terrible way. Thurrock Council will do all it can to assist Essex Police as their investigation continues."
