Coronavirus (COVID-19) – marriages and civil partnerships

Thurrock Register Office is open for booked appointments only. You must not visit if you or anyone in your household has symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The number of people who can attend a ceremony depends on how many the venue can safely hold, based on a risk assessment. Guests must follow coronavirus (COVID-19) safety rules.

Approved premises in Thurrock

It is possible to be married in any approved premises in England or Wales, regardless of where you reside. Go to GOV.UK: Civil marriages and partnerships – approved premises list .

The following approved premises are all located within the Thurrock Registration Area.

Thurrock Register Office rooms

Our Mulberry Suite can accommodate a maximum of 60 people in the wedding party, including:

  • the couple
  • 2 witnesses
  • guests, including any children or babies, if you wish

In addition, 2 registrars will be present, and you may invite a photographer and videographer.

Our Lacey Room can accommodate a maximum of 10 people in the wedding party, including:

  • the couple
  • 2 witnesses
  • guests, including any children or babies, if you wish
  • a photographer, if you wish
  • a videographer, if you wish

In addition, 2 registrars will be present.

Our Register Office can accommodate only:

  • the couple
  • 2 witnesses

In addition, 2 registrars will be present.

You can choose from any of our example ceremonies in any of the above rooms, except for the Register Office where we only carry out marriage ceremonies using 'traditional ceremony' wording. You don't need to have a ceremony if you are forming a civil partnership.

Opening hours:

  • Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm – all services
  • Saturday morning – ceremonies only

Our emergency out-of-hours contact service can be used for emergency marriages or civil partnerships for terminally ill residents.

Thameside Theatre

The theatre can accommodate a maximum of 15 people in the wedding party, including:

  • the couple
  • 2 witnesses
  • guests, including any children or babies, if you wish

In addition, 2 registrars will be present, and you may invite a photographer and videographer.

The theatre's facilities include:

  • theatre-style seating for up to 250 guests
  • foyer and bar area
  • bespoke catering available
  • amazing lighting and backdrop possibilities with technical staff expertise
  • front of house staff
