Gritting ends for another year

Gritting crews in the borough have hung up their boots until the next outbreak of chilly weather, after Thurrock Council officially declared the end of another gritting season.
Environment and Highways teams completed 40 gritting runs using 1,001 tonnes of rock salt during low temperatures between Tuesday 30 October 2018 and Wednesday 3 April 2019.

New gritters have been in action for the first time as Thurrock Council continues to invest in keeping people safe on the borough's roads.
Following a drop in temperatures earlier this month, the council's new fleet of specialist multi-purpose vehicles – which also carry out road maintenance work – were used for gritting for the very first time.
