Students congratulated on GCSE success after tough year

12 August 2021

Thurrock Council has joined Year 11 students across the borough as they celebrated after receiving their GCSE results today (Thursday 12 August).

Despite COVID-19 disruptions, the students showed their ability to succeed during unprecedented times and once again have gained excellent results across the borough.

Cllr Barry Johnson, Cabinet member for children's services, said: "I am proud of all of our students who have received their GCSE results today and wish them all the best in their next steps, whether it be going on to do A-levels, a vocational course, an apprenticeship or entering the world of work.

"Completing your GCSEs is already a nervous time for many of our young people and, with the setbacks caused by the pandemic, I can only imagine how it heightened this feeling for them, but they have all prevailed.

"Our borough's schools and teachers have also gone to great lengths to support our Year 11s, and we as a council are as thankful to them as our students are."

Through the Inspire Youth Hub, young people in the borough aged 16 and over can access free information, advice and guidance about future career pathways and support in deciding their next steps. For more information and to contact the Inspire Youth Hub, go to thurrock.gov.uk/careers
