Recommendations to freeze Thurrock Council's element of council tax for the next year were unanimously approved on Wednesday 27 February.
The decision means there will be a 0% increase in the council’s general fund element of council tax although residents will see a small rise overall because of increases made by the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner on the police and fire service precept.
Thurrock Council has the lowest council tax rate in Essex and is one of the lowest of all unitary authorities throughout the country as well as boasting the strongest financial position of any unitary authority.
Thurrock Council’s financial, commercial and investment strategies mean it has been able to protect and invest in services that matter most to our residents and will be able to continue to do so without the council asking for a single penny more from council tax payers.
The council maintains a balanced budget for 2019/20, and into the next decade, despite no planned tax increase, with frontline services being protected and opportunities created for significant growth.
