Thurrock celebrates best ever KS2 results

Primary schools in Thurrock are celebrating after initial Key Stage 2 results revealed the percentage of 11 year-olds achieving the expected standard in reading, writing and maths is higher than ever before.
The number of pupils achieving this expected standard across all 3 subjects combined has risen from 66% in 2018 to 70% in 2019. This year's result is also higher than the national figure of 65% for these subjects combined, as reported by the Department for Education.

The finalists shortlisted for this year's Thurrock Education Awards have been announced following an array of nominations from young people, parents and colleagues across the borough this summer.
In total, 52 individuals and teams have been short-listed across 13 award categories.

Thurrock Council is again celebrating the magnificent work and outstanding achievements of our colleagues in schools and other education settings.
Nominations for the fifth Thurrock Education Awards open on Monday 16 July 2018.
Cllr James Halden, portfolio holder for education and health, said: "The Thurrock education awards are an important part of how we recognise success, innovation, leadership and achievements of the staff who work in our early years settings, schools, academies and post-16 provision.

Education Awards winners announced

The fourth annual Thurrock Education Awards were held at the Civic Hall, Grays on Friday night (10 November).
Winners in 14 categories were announced on the evening, which also featured speeches from Cllr James Halden, Portfolio Holder for Education, and Andrew Bowen of DP World London Gateway – the main sponsor of the Thurrock Education Awards.
The host Lorna Hamilton, Headteacher of ORTU Corringham Primary, was also named winner of the Headteacher of the Year in Primary Education.
