'Tis the season to #GiveAGift

31 October 2019

It's official, Thurrock Council's award-winning Give a Gift is back in November to help give presents to children in need in Thurrock this Christmas.

From Monday 25 November through to Sunday 8 December, a tree decorated with over 2,000 stars – each one representing a child for whom the council has corporate parental responsibility – will be placed in the Give a Gift unit returning to intu Lakeside.

Give a Gift relies on generous contributions from local businesses, members of the public and volunteers from the council.

intu Lakeside has once again kindly donated a unit for the Give A Gift tree to run from. Again, this year the Christmas tree will be located in Unit 7, on Level 1 (ground floor), next to HSBC at the House of Fraser end of the shopping centre.

To help us ahead of opening day, we are looking for local sponsors to kindly donate some important items such as:

  • wrapping paper
  • Sellotape
  • gift bags
  • gift tags

Cllr Sue Little, Cabinet member for social care, said: "In September, Give a Gift won Best Community and Neighbourhood Initiative at  the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Awards.

"Last year Christmas presents were donated and delivered to over 2,500 children in need across the borough. The kindness demonstrated by local people and businesses was inspiring.

"It couldn't be easier to put a smile on a child's face this Christmas. Please come along to the Give a Gift unit when it opens to choose your star from the tree and donate a gift."

We also have a small wish list of items we need to support the logistics of the project. If you or your business would like to get involved with Give a Gift, for more information or contact details please visit  thurrock.gov.uk/giveagift
